You Can Heal and Build at the Same Time
Dr. Pamela Berry
FAITH · RENEWAL · POSSIBILITY
Practical first steps toward renewed confidence and financial stability after divorce.
Sometimes the hardest part of starting over is knowing how much you invested in the life that fell apart.
You gave your love, your labor, your loyalty, and your years. Perhaps you supported someone else’s ambitions while postponing your own. Now you are carrying the emotional weight of rejection while calculating how to meet obligations that have continued uninterrupted.
The bills have not paused to acknowledge your heartbreak.
I want to speak to the woman who is functioning, handling responsibilities, and responding as if nothing has changed, while privately wondering, How did I get here, and how do I move forward?
You begin by understanding that what happened to you has not erased what God placed within you.
Your experience still has value. Your intelligence still has purpose. Your ability to learn, create, lead, and contribute remains yours.
There is a wound, and it deserves care. There is also a future, and it deserves your participation.
Let the Past Teach You Without Directing Your Future
You may never receive an explanation that makes the rejection understandable. An apology may never arrive. Revisiting the same conversations may leave you with the same unanswered questions.
Your past may offer wisdom about boundaries, discernment, and decisions. Receive that wisdom. But when it tells you that you are unwanted, incapable, or too old to begin again, it has nothing of value to contribute.
You do not have to keep consulting your pain about what is possible.
Ask yourself a different question: What can I do today that will make tomorrow more secure?
That question brings your attention back to where you have influence, what you can control.
You can decide what you learn. You can protect a portion of your time. You can ask for help. You can examine your spending, identify a useful skill, and create an offer that solves a problem.
I want to help you direct your energy toward those decisions. You deserve to experience yourself as a woman attentive to you and your desires, even though we seem to get so much pleasure in the happiness of others. You first this time.
Your Financial Recovery Deserves a Plan
Ecclesiastes 10:19 says, “money answereth all things.” That does not mean money can repair every wound. It recognizes money’s practical place in life. Housing, groceries, transportation, and everyday responsibilities require resources. Read Ecclesiastes 10:19 (KJV).
Wanting financial stability is a responsible desire. Wanting to surpass your previous financial position is a worthy goal.
You cannot what you wish you could but you can strengthen your earning capacity, develop additional income sources, and make informed decisions about what you keep.
Faith can steady you while you learn to do those things.
One opportunity worth understanding, despite popular opinion, is artificial intelligence. Used thoughtfully, AI can help you organize your knowledge, develop useful products, and reduce some of the work involved in running a small business.
You bring the experience and judgment. AI can assist with the preparation.
Women Are Already Seeing Business Benefits
There is credible evidence that women are using AI in businesses that generate income.
A 2026 report from the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, developed with Intuit and the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law project, surveyed 3,072 women entrepreneurs across 66 low- and middle-income countries. Participants were digitally connected women; these findings do not represent all women or specifically American women rebuilding after divorce. Read about the research.
Among the reported outcomes of AI use:
- 34% reported increased sales or revenue.
- 69% reported saving time.
Women using AI in finance, bookkeeping, or operations were more likely to report increased sales or revenue: 45%, compared with 25% among those using it only in other business functions. Read the report summary.
In the United States, Gusto’s 2026 research found that 56% of women who started businesses in 2025 used AI in the launch process. Read Gusto’s research.
Three Practical Ways to Begin
You do not need to learn every tool or launch several businesses at once. Begin with one problem you understand and one person you can help.
1. Turn your knowledge into a useful digital resource.
Think about something you have done successfully enough to explain to someone else. Perhaps you know how to organize an event, prepare for an interview, manage a busy household, or coordinate a community project.
Use AI to help organize your ideas into a checklist, workbook, or short guide. Add your own examples, review every instruction, and make the resource specific enough to be useful.
For example, an experienced event planner could create a small-event planning kit with a timeline, vendor questions, and a budget worksheet.
Before building the entire product, ask a few potential buyers what they struggle with and whether your proposed resource would help. Their answers should shape what you create.
2. Teach one skill and create a recorded version.
Choose a skill you can teach clearly in a short session. AI can help you develop the outline, practice exercises, and participant worksheet.
Consider offering a small live workshop first. Notice where participants need more explanation. Use that feedback to improve the lesson, then record a version that future customers can purchase.
The live workshop requires your time each time you deliver it. A recording creates the possibility of repeated sales from work you have already completed.
3. Create templates that save someone time.
You may already know how to build an effective meeting agenda, project calendar, client welcome packet, or tracking spreadsheet.
AI can help you develop a first draft, write instructions, and identify missing steps. You then test, refine, and package your original materials into something another person can use.
A useful template helps the buyer accomplish a task with less confusion. That is the value you are offering.
These approaches can become sources of income that require less repeated delivery work. They still require marketing, maintenance, and customer support. Passive income usually begins with active work.
If your need for money is immediate, consider offering a paid service using the same skill while developing your reusable product. Building a product takes time, and the first sale may not come quickly.
Give Your Future One Week of Focused Attention
This week, write down three things people regularly ask you to help them do. Choose one. Speak with three potential customers about the problem they need solved.
Then use AI to help outline a small solution.
Set a spending limit before purchasing subscriptions or training. Review AI-generated information carefully, protect private information, and use only materials you have the right to sell.
Your first milestone is one useful offer and evidence that someone wants it. Your next milestone is learning whether you can deliver it profitably.
Let each step give you information for the next.
You are allowed to pursue a future that is more secure, more peaceful, and more financially stable than the life you lost. You are also allowed to build at a pace that respects your healing.
I want to help you move from wondering whether you can recover to identifying what you can do next.
You can grieve and learn. You can receive support and make decisions. You can rebuild your confidence while developing your capacity to earn.
Give yourself permission to go first in the decisions that shape your life.
Then take one practical step that agrees with the future you are praying for.
